Verse
F Am
God knows what is hiding in that weak and drunken heart
            G Gsus4 G
I guess you kissed the girls and made them cry
      F
those Hardfaced Queens of misadventure
F Am
God knows what is hiding in those weak and sunken eyes
  G Gsus4 G
a Fiery throng of muted angels
       F
Giving love and getting nothing back

Chorus
F Am
People help the people
            G
And if your homesick,
                           F
give me your hand and i'll hold it
F Am
People help the people
                 G
And nothing will drag you down
       Dm C F
Oh and if I had a brain,
       Dm C F
Oh and if I had a brain
       Dm C F
i'd be cold as a stone and rich as the fool
     Dm E F F
That turned, all those good hearts away

Verse - 2 -
F Am
God knows what is hiding, in that world of little consequence
            G Gsus4 G
Behind the tears, inside the lies
  F F
A thousand slowly dying sunsets
F Am
God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts
  G Gsus4 G
I guess the loneliness came knocking
       F F
No one needs to be alone, oh save me

Chorus
F Am
People help the people
            G
And if your homesick,
                           F
give me your hand and i'll hold it
F Am
People help the people
                 G
And nothing will drag you down

Oh and if I had a brain,
       Dm C F
Oh and if I had a brain
       Dm C F

  1. i don’t use the Gsus4, it might make it easier, and instead of E, i play E7

  2. twentyoneukeleles

    love this song.

  3. DaoShiLang

Verse: D DUD DU* UDUD* DU
    Chorus: D D UUDD DU

  4. I believe that E should be an E7 instead :)

  5. Also, the first line should be “God knows what is hiding in THOSE weak and drunken heartS,” if I am correct.

  6. This doesn’t seem to be the correct key… The original key for this song in both the “Birdy” and “Fire Within” albums is 1 half step up.

  7. Omg I love this song!
