I wanna tell yall about a man we called Mr. Ray. We called him Mr Ray, distinguished from Pastor Ray, who’s the pastor of my childhood church. Ive just found out that Mr Ray is no longer with us and I haven’t seen him in years and what else could I do do with the news but to sing something for him and remember.
In the post that informed us all, his loved one said that he “never knew a stranger”. He’s that kind of old man that makes friends all over and does right by people, yk? He always showed up really early and sometimes they would drop by McDonald’s on the way and he would make sure to bring us kids of the worship team some hashbrowns when he could. He would also sometimes surprise us with metal toy cars of a particular type that you could pull back and they would go yk the ones(they ended up lined up on the front of the media booth when they weren’t being played with) and sometimes he even brought pretzel sticks or buttermints as snacks. While our parents were working, us two or three sets of kids would be playing in the back of the sanctuary and he helped keep us in line.
He was a good man I think. A lot of my childhood was spent at that church early in the morning and a lot of time he was there making it more fun for us kids. I hope he’s living the afterlife he deserves in heaven.
I like +5 personally. Thank you for this!
On the “when we’ve been there ten thousand years” part I substitute the C7 for an E major. I think it makes part sound stronger
Love this song! Such a classic.❤️
Personally, the original is too high for me so i changed it to -5. It may look hard but i promise it’s not.
