Verse:
     C Am
I've heard there was a secret chord
     C Am
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
    F G C G
But you don't really care for music, do you?

Pre-Chorus:
   C F G
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
    Am F
The minor fall, the major lift
    G Em Am
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Chorus:
     F Am
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
      F C-G-C-C
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Verse:
     C Am
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
    C Am
You saw her bathing on the roof
    F G C G
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you

Pre-Chorus:
    C
She tied you
     F G
To a kitchen chair
    Am
She broke your throne,
    F
she cut your hair
    G Em Am
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Chorus:
     F Am
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
      F C-G-C-C
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Verse:
    C Am
But baby I've been here before
     C Am
I've seen this room, I've walked this floor
  F G C G
I used to live alone before I knew you

Pre-Chorus:
     C F G
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Am F
love is not a victory march
       G Em Am
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Chorus:
     F Am
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
      F C-G-C-C
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Verse:
      C Am
There was a time you'd let me know
C Am
What's real and going on below
    F G C G
But now you never show it to me do you?

Pre-Chorus:
   C F G
Remember when I moved in you?
    Am F
The holy dove was moving too
    G Em Am
And every breath we drew was hallelujah

Chorus:
     F Am
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
      F C-G-C-C
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Verse:
C Am
Maybe there's a God above
    C Am
And all I ever learned from love
    F G C G
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you

Pre-Chorus:
     C F G
It's not a cry you can hear at night
     Am F
It's not somebody who's seen the light
       G Em Am
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Outro:
F Am
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
F C-G
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
F Am
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
F C-G-C
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

La spada da lato

What’s the finger picking pattern for the chorus?

someeone_LA

this song is best when you have nothing left to do during quarantine!

skar

Try replace Em with E7 and it might sound better

Gretta_Grazer

I forgot how do you do E7?

NomoLife

I don’t know the technical terms. It’s top stret on the far left, second stret on the second string from the right, and second stret on the far right

carso

top string (G) is 1st finger 1st fret, string below that (C) is 2nd finger 2nd fret, leave the next string (E) open, and bottom string (A) is 3rd finger 2nd fret. hope this helped, if not you can always look up a diagram

Gretta_Grazer

Jee thanks I didn’t think people would reply but I got it now!

Bee

Oh yes, absoutely – thank you! 😃

Dj

I’ve been waiting 4 years for this!!!! Hyped is an understatement.

He who shall not be named

it says “the holy dark was moving too” it’s supposed to be dove! That’s a really sad mistake. :(

Dj

I keep the plucking pattern through the whole song. It’s a little tricky but I think it sounds best that way.

Elizabeth

Is it just me or does Am not really fit the song in some parts?

any one have any ideas for a substitute

Nailah

I was thinking that instead it could be :

They say (A) there was a secret (F#m) chord, that David(A) played and it pleased (F#m) the lord but you (D) don’t really care for music don’t really care for music (A) do ya (F#m)

(A) Well it goes like this the (D) fourth the (E) fifth….etc

Steven

please…. keep going. Could you post how you would think the whole song should be? I had a hard time ‘meshing’ what you came up with with the rest of the song but it sounds so nice

Wecanstayhere

Please keep going!

Kitcat

I put a capo on the third fret

Milly Davies

For the final hallelujah in the chorus, I like to do C, and then replace the G by picking E 1st fret and then E open, and then G C

So instead of CGCC, i play C-E1-E0-G-C

Gretta_Grazer

Please keep goin i did it and it sound awesome. ._.

Qwerycfgg

Recommend adding a capo to the first fret it sounds a lot better!x

SuzieQ

Pre-chorus doesn’t transpose fully
