The questions I get asked most by people learning their first songs.
Most beginners get furthest with a two or three chord song built on C, F and G7. This list is sorted by what people actually play, so anything in the first handful is a safe first song. Pick one you already know how to sing, because knowing the tune means you only have to think about your hands.
Four will get you a long way. The basic ukulele chords C, G, Am and F turn up in a huge share of popular songs and once you can change between them cleanly you can play hundreds of the songs on this page. Every tab shows the diagrams right above the lyrics so you'll never have to go looking for a shape.
Most songs here are roughly playable in a single 15 to 30 minute session. Getting the changes smooth enough to keep time usually takes a few more sittings and that's completely normal. Slow the song right down until the changes are clean, then bring the tempo back up.
