I find that a DDUDU strumming pattern works really well for me!
Using -1 and putting a capo on the 1st fret works the best for me. For the fingerpicking, I like to pinch the G and the A strings simultaneously and then pluck C and then E. I guess it would look like this:

I really only use it for the long stretches of C chord, and for the chorus and pre-chorus I just use downstrums.

I use a DdUu (the uppercase means more emphasis) strumming pattern as the base for playing this song, but I don’t follow it rigidly. You’ll have to feel out the rhythm for yourself to figure out when to switch it up.
