I’ve found that holding Gbm chord and going up from the lowest string to highest (C-E-G-A) sounds very close to the guitar riff played throughout the song.
A|————0~——————
E|——2—————2————
C|—1—————1—————
G|———2—————2~——
(And then the second part of the riff right after that is the same exact plucking pattern but you hold down an A chord instead).
Now compared to the actual guitar riff this is definitely not the same set of notes. But it sounds similar enough that you can get away with it. Unfortunately the riff has two octaves in play, and unfortunately most soprano ukuleles don’t go higher than 12 frets, or even have any string that isn’t in a the 4th octave. So this chord plucking pattern is the next best thing.
(Note: You can opt out of the chords in the verses and just play the riff instead). [The chorus doesn’t use the riff and John strums during it. (See the final chorus as every instrument drops out except guitar)].
