Intro: D

Verse:
D
The greener grass grows where the wildfires fertilize,
D Em G
With ashes of sparrows, peppered moths, and butterflies. Ghosts of trees and termites
          D
bloom in the beanstalk.

D
And if you get lightheaded when standing too fast, is it from
D Em G
shaking out the weight of phosphenes and past salt deposits, on warm little rivers,
                     D
that burst from our words.

Pre-Chorus:
     A G D
And god knows crying ain't gonna change a thing.
     A G D Dmaj7 D7
She said "take care" but I take more than I bring.

Chorus:
               G D
She said, "It just feels inhumane to lose this much.
                 Em G D
'Cause when you leave you know you take more than your love."
           G D
Wake up in a cicada daze, we're losing touch.
               Em G D
And I know it just feels inhumane to lose this much.

Interlude: Em G

Verse:
D
Our nerves were braided under ceiling stars, that were all
D
glow in the dark, hanging over queen-sized
 Em G D Em G
purple waves of ancient chemicals. Just whisper.

D
Did you ever build with those endangered bones? Well the
nc D7 Em G
ground looks soft enough to bury this now. Ohhhh,
           D Dmaj7 D7
Please, oh no.

Pre-Chorus:
               A G D
And then my sponsor said "Do nothing. Nothing works."
        A G D Dmaj7 D7
And my doctor said "Don't do that if it hurts."

Chorus:
               G D
She said, "It just feels inhumane to lose this much.
                 Em G D
'Cause when you leave you know you take more than your love."
           G D
The seasons of cicada days we can’t make up
               Em G D Dmaj7 D7
And I know it just feels inhumane to lose this much.

Bridge:
           Em G D
Let all my red flags fade to white, yeah, I give up.
              Em G D
Don't let me leave, I'll only take more than I gave. Okay, I'll pack my stuff.
             Em G D
Here at the end of days, my god, what have I done?
           Em G D
My God it feels damn inhumane to lose this much. Woahhhh!

Outro:
D
Keep coming back it works if you work it
D
So work it you're worth it it won't if you don't
     Em G D
One day at a time, tomorrow's too late, amen.
