Intro: E A B

E A
Sun comes up, it's Tuesday morning
         B
Hits me straight in the eye
           A E
Guess you forgot to close the blind last night
          A B A
Oh that's right, I forgot, it was me

  A E
I sure do miss the smell of black coffee in the morning,
    A E
The sound of water splashing all over the bathroom,
    A E
The kiss that you would give me even though I was sleeping,
      B A E
But I kind of like the feel of this extra few feet in my bed

E A
Telephone's ringing, but I don't answer it
       B A E
'Cause everybody knows that good news always sleeps till noon
                   A
Guess it's tea and toast for breakfast again
  B A
Maybe I'll add a little T.V. too
            E
No milk! God, how I hate that
         A E
Guess I'll go to the corner, get breakfast from Jenny
            A E
She's got a black eye this morning, "Jen how'd ya get it?"
           B A E
She says, "Last night, Bobby got a little bit out of hand"

                A
Lunchtime, I start to dial your number
     B A
Then I remember so I reach for somebodies smoke
   E A
And anyways I'd rather listen to Coltrane
      B A
Than go through all that xxxx again
                                     E
There's something about an afternoon spent doing nothin
     A E
Just listening to records and watching the sun falling
       A E
Thinking of things that don't have to add up to something
        B
And this spell won't be broken
        A E
By the sound of keys scraping in the lock

E A
Maybe tonight it's a movie With plenty of room
 B
 for elbows and knees
A E
a bag of popcorn all to myself,
E A
Black and white with a strong female lead
       B A
And if I don't like it, no debate, I'll leave

     A E
Here comes that feeling that I'd forgotten
    A
How strange these streets feel
     E
when you're alone on them
     A E
Each pair of eyes just filled with suggestion
      B A
So I lower my head, make a b-line for home
         E
Seething inside

                 A
Funny, I'd never noticed
     B A E
The sound the streetcars make as they pass my window
        A B A
Which reminds me that I forgot to close the blind again

                                E
Yeah, sure I'll admit there are times when I miss you
     A E
Especially like now when I need someone to hold me
       A E
But there are some things that can never be forgiven
      B
And I just gotta tell ya
         A E
That I kinda like this extra few feet in my bed

Solo:
   A B A E
   A B A

   A E
   A E
   B A E

Biography

Cowboy Junkies is a Canadian alt-country band formed by three siblings from the Timmins entertainment family (Margo Timmins, vocals; Michael Timmins, songwriter & guitars; Peter Timmins, drums) plus Alan Anton on bass. The group formed in Toronto in 1986. The band’s name was simply a random choice as they approached their first ever gig, but it has come to perfectly represent their sound. (Some sources may credit Townes Van Zandt’s song “Cowboy Junkies Lament” as the source of the band’s name
