Intro:
   Bm7
   Gbm E Gbm Bm7 -x3-
   Gbm E

Verse 1:
       D
Just a young boy

At the starting line with his tunes on
                            Gbm
And his shoes untied with a chip on
                                 E
His shoulder side from what he tripped on
                         D
The last time he's Buzz Lightyear

With no hyper-drive
           D
He's like Mike here
                              Gbm
With no Nike Flight and he'll fall down

With his shoes untied
           E
And he'll trip on to the finish line

Pre-Chorus:
         D
And I'll try to write this song
                    Gbm E
If he gets there
      Bm
And I want to write this song

Chorus:
     D A
I'd like to be the one who is on the podium
       Gbm
Take a photo for my mom
     E A
And show here that I've made it
     D A
I'd like to be the one who could write the perfect song
        Gbm
Just to show you that I've won
          E A D
But I'll have to tie my laces
A D
If I'm gonna make it

Verse 2:
         D
In that moment

When they hit the lights in looked golden
                                Gbm
But it didn't feel right he was frozen
                                  E
With the worst frostbite was he chosen
        E Gbm D
Like an Israelite, pick the quotient
                               D
That you can't divide like two oceans
                                 Gbm
Stranded on the other side his devotions
                        E
On the other side his emotions

On the other side

Pre-Chorus:
          D
And I'll try to write this song
                  Gbm E
If he gets there
      Bm
And I want to write this song

Chorus:
A D A
I'd like to be the one who is on the podium
       Gbm7
Take a photo for my mom
     E A
And show here that I've made it
    D A
I'd like to be the one who could write the perfect song
        Gbm
Just to show you that I've won
          E A Bm
But I'll have to tie my laces
E Gbm D Gbm E
If I'm gonna make it

Bridge:
    D
And then I'll end this song
Gbm E
    In 2051
    D
And sing it for my son
    E
And then I'll tie his laces
       D
Just a young boy at the starting line, line, line, line

Chorus:
    D A
I'd like to be the one who is on the podium
       Gbm
Take a photo for my mom
    E A
And show here that I've made it
    Dmaj7 A
I'd like to be the one who could write the perfect song
        Gbm
Just to show you that I've won
         E A D
But I'll have to tie my laces
A D
If I'm gonna make it

Biography

After getting dropped by Columbia Records at 18 years old, singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin built a following by playing in parking lots outside of Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan concerts. The Phoenix, Arizona native caught the attention of Jon Bellion, earning a songwriting credit on Bellion’s debut album and later joined him on tour.

To build on the momentum, Benjamin began uploading new songs to his YouTube channel at a rapid clip and eventually earned a viral hit with “I Built a Friend” and a deal with Atlantic Records.
