    G Am D
How sad, how lovely,
    G Am D
how short, how sweet,
    G Am D
to see that sunset
       G Em G
at the end of the street.

        Am Bm
And the day gathered in
      Am G
to a single light,
         C G
and the shadows rising
         Am D G
from the brim of the night.

    Em Am
Too few, too few,
        G Am
are the days that will hold
     Em Am
your face, your face
     Em Am ------ D
in a blaze of gold.

    G Am D
How sad, how lovely,
    G Am D
how short, how sweet,
    G Am D
to see that sunset
       G Em G
at the end of the street.

        Am Bm
And the lights going on
       Am G
in the shops and the bars,
        C G
and the lovers looking
        Am D G
for the first little stars.

     Am Em
Like life, like a smile,
         Am D
like the fall of a leaf,
    G Am
how sad, how lovely,
    G C G
how brief.
