Intro -x2-: Am E Am E

Verse 1:
              Am E Am E
I've earned myself a reputation
        C G C G
That my bark is much worse than my bite
           F Ab
But I keep snapping at Goliath's hands
     Am C
With all of my tiny might
             Am E Am E
There are no stones at my disposal
           C G C G
There's no God to award me a crown
         F Ab
But I am always swinging at
    Am E
Somebody I can't knock down

Pre-Chorus:
           Dm Am
All of the fire I've swallowed
           E F
All of the sparks that went dark in my gut
     Ab G Am E
I am always burning up

Verse 2:
            Am E Am E
Dress me in red and throw your roses
         C G C G
And I'll rankle the beasts with words
       F Ab
It's a graceless dance of epithets
   Am C
We learn to make someone hurt
             Am E Am E
They will consume your sweet resistance
            C G C G
And they'll carry your heart in their teeth
    F Ab
But I am always feeding them
    Am E
The ugliest parts of me

Pre-Chorus:
           Dm Am
All of the words I've swallowed
           E F
All of the sharp things I've kept in my mouth
     Ab G Am E
I am always bleeding out

Chorus:
           C
Take me to war
                  Am
Honey, I dare you
            C
I'll be the sweetest thing
              Am
To ever scare you
          F Am
Give me a fight I can't resist
            E F
Give me something to break with my fists
           Ab
Take me to war
    G Am E
Oh, honey, I dare you

Verse 3:
            Am E Am E
I watched a weed usurp the garden
        C G C G
And it poisoned the rest of the crops
              F Ab
It would take days of fighting stubborn roots
   Am E
To tear the whole damn thing out
          Am E Am E
So I will leave it where it's standing
       C G C G
And instead I will find me a match
             F Ab
I'll turn it all to kindling
     Am E
I'll burn it all down to ash

Pre-Chorus:
           Dm Am
All of the ire I've swallowed
           E F
All of the coals that still sit in my gut
     Ab G Am E
I am always burning up

Chorus:
           C
Take me to war
                  Am
Honey, I dare you
            C
I'll be the sweetest thing
              Am
To ever scare you
          F Am
Give me a fight I can't resist
            E F
Give me something to break with my fists
           Ab
Take me to war
    G Am E
Oh, honey, I dare you
           Am E C
Take me to war
           Am E C
Take me to war
           Am E C
Take me to war
           Am E C Am
Take me to war

Biography

Destiny itself assembled the Crane Wives, and now they seek only to make music worthy of destiny. That, and act as silly as humanly possible.

“The Crane Wife is an old Japanese tale. While there are many variations of the tale, a common version is that a poor man finds an injured crane on his doorstep (or outside with an arrow in it), takes it in and nurses it back to health. After he releases the crane, a woman appears at his doorstep with whom he falls in love and marries.
