Intro: E A E B

       E
If you want to be a pirate,
       A
Get up on your feet.
    E
You can't be a pirate,
          B
If you're sitting in your seat.
           E
Swing your arms tough,
    B
And stand kind of low,
                        E
And make this noise wherever you go.

B
Arrr! Arrr! Arrr!
                                   E
A pirate, a pirate, a pirate says "Arrr!"
   A
It might seem strange, just a bit bizarre,
         B
But they know you're a pirate,
                        E
When they hear you say "Arrr!"

B
Arrr! Arrr! Arrr!
                                   E
A pirate, a pirate, a pirate says "Arrr!"
    A
You wear a spare part, a bandana and a scar,
         B
and they know you're a pirate,
                        E
When they hear you say "Arrr!"

                       A
The Jolly Roger is the pirate flag,
  E B
A skull and some bones on a big black rag.
      E B
We'll fly it on our ship, up above the sails,

And we'll search for treasure,
       E
And be tough as nails!

B
Arrr! Arrr! Arrr!
                                   E
A pirate, a pirate, a pirate says "Arrr!"
       A
If you think we're noisy, you're right, we are,
            B
'cause they know you're a pirate,
                        E
When they hear you say "Arrr!"

Biography

The adventures are fun and well written and the dialog is witty, but the thing that really sets The Backyardigans apart is the music and the dancing. Each episode has a musical theme for which the staff composers (notably Evan Lurie of the Lounge Lizards) create original music and songs of often surprisingly high quality.

So far The Backyardigans musical vocabulary ranges from 60s Garage Punk (Monster Detective) to Bossa Nova (Castaways) to Kenya Highlife (Mission to Mars) to Klezmer (Horsin’ Around).
