Verse:
Eb G Cm Bb
If I get murdered in the city,

don't go revengin' in my name.
Eb G Cm Bb
One person dead from such is plenty,

no need to go get locked away
Cm Bb Eb
When I leave your arms,
Cm Bb Eb
the things that I think of
Cm Bb Ab Eb
No need to get over-alarmed
Cm Bb Eb
I'm coming home.

Interlude: D#, G, Cm, A#, G#, A#, Eb

Eb G Cm Bb
I wonder which brother is better
Ab Bb Eb
Which one our parents love the most.
Eb G Cm Bb
I sure did get in lots of trouble,
Ab Bb Eb
they seem to let the other go.
Cm Bb Eb
a tear fell from my father's eyes,
Cm Bb Eb
I wondered what my dad would say.
Cm Bb
He Said I love you,

but i'm proud of you both,
Cm Bb Eb
In so many different ways.

Interlude: D#, G, Cm, A#, G#, A#, Eb

Eb G Cm Bb
If I get murdered in the city,
Ab Bb Eb
go read the letter in my desk.
Eb G Cm Bb
Don't bother with all my belongings,
Ab Bb Eb
but pay attention to my list.
Cm Bb Eb
Make sure my sister knows I love her,
Cm Bb Eb
make sure my mother knows the same
Cm Bb Ab Eb
Always remember there was nothing worth sharing
         Cm Bb Eb
like the love that let us share our name.
Cm Bb Ab Eb
Always remember there was nothing worth sharing
         Cm Bb Eb
like the love that let us share our name.

Biography

The Avett Brothers is an American folk-rock band that originated in Concord, North Carolina. Two brothers, Seth Avett and Scott Avett, formed the group in 2000 after the breakup of the former rock band, Nemo, adding a third member, Bob Crawford. Subsequently, they have been joined by cellist Joe Kwon. The Avett Brothers combine old-time country, bluegrass, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk and ragtime to produce a sound described by the Washington Post as “post civil-war modern rock”, or by other reviewers as “grungegrass”.
