Intro
   G D Am Em X3
   G D Am

Verse
 G D Am Em
And then the past recedes
G D Am Em
And I won't be involved
G D Am Em
The effort to be free
G D Am
Seems pointless from above

Verse
G D Am Em
You're looking down at me
G D Am Em
I'd rather stay below
G D Am Em
Than have you staring up at me
G D Am B
Is nowhere I want to go

Chorus
C Am Em D
Ay, This business of how long we try to stay alive
C Am Em
Why to be here you first got to die
        D
So I gave it a try
      C G Am
And what do you know time was so long ago

Verse
G D Am Em
And things come back you see
G D Am Em
To where they don't belong
G D Am Em
And every drop of sea
G D Am B
Is the whole ocean

Verse
C Am
I lied to the greatest thieves
       Em D
About anything and everything
C Am Em
I'm a figure of forgotten speech
     D
I'm out of reach
C G
I can't play it safe
              Am
But I might just in case

Solo

C G
I'm disguised as a reaching hand
        Am
I'm a working man
C G
I don't understand why clock out
       Am
Comes so slow every time
C G Am
That's one line I stay right behind
C G Am B
That's one line I stay right behind.

 G D Am Em X3

I think this song really represents how we all feel- at some point of our lives- that we are lost and have nowhere to go, but together we don’t feel so lonely anymore.

Calciefer

It’s single down strums

Lets all be nice here ,okay, if they want to use -7 it doesn’t mean their lazy it just means that they either like it better or they like simpler chords.

Singing this all i thought of was the movie hook

Carina Cook

Okay I need to get this out because I am get mad. Don’t get mad and say people are lazy for transposing to -7. In my case the men’s chorus at my school is doing this song at vocal MPA and the teacher asked me to play and transpose this to -7 on uklale because he wanted to not use piano. So please don’t say people are lazy for using transpoed -7

Gore Hals

for the chords I like plucking the strings.
So if I was playing an Em, I pluck the C and E strings then the E and A string. I do it for all the chords throughout the whole song
