     D Gbm
You wait for a silence
   A E
I wait for a word
       D Gbm
Lying next to your frame
 A E
Girl unobserved
      D Gbm
You change your position
          A E
You're changing me
   D Gbm
Casting these shadows
       E A
Where they shouldn't be

D Gbm
We're interrupted
        A E
By the heat of the sun
D Gbm
Trying to prevent
         A E
What's already begun
D Gbm
You're just a body
        A E
I can smell your skin
     D Gbm
And when I feel it
         E A
You're wearing thin

     Gbm D E
But I've got a plan
           E Gbm
Why don't you be the artist
     D A
And make me out of clay?
           E Gbm
Why don't you be the writer
  D A
Decide the words I say?
            Gbm A
Cause I'd rather pretend
            E Gbm
I'll still be there at the end
           D Gbm
Only it's too hard to ask
           E A
Won't you try to help me?

D Gbm
Sat on your sofa
     A E
It's all broken springs
       D Gbm
This isn't the place for
        A E
Those violin strings
   D Gbm
I try out a smile
      A E
And I aim it at you
     D Gbm
You must have missed it
       E A
You always do

     Gbm D E
But I've got a plan
   E Gbm
Why don't you be the artist
     D A
And make me out of clay?
           E Gbm
Why don't you be the writer
  D A
Decide the words I say?
            Gbm A
Cause I'd rather pretend

I'll still be there at the end
           D Gbm
Only it's too hard to ask

Won't you try to help me?
