Intro: C F C F

Verse 1:
F C
They paint the walls with colors that you're not meant to notice.
 G
Beiges and browns, off-whites and grayscales,
 F C
Fluorescent lights to shine on the eggshell ground.
                       G
Now you're lying face down,
                         F
You blend into the background,
          C F
Of white noise.

Verse 2:
F C
They fill the halls with tunes you can't get into your head.
 G
4/4 and Dorian, wrote 'em for ignoring 'em, yeah
    F C
It sorta sounds like a retro top 40 but wrong.
                           G
You're not meant to sing along,
                       F
It isn't that kind of song,
            C F
It's white noise.

Pre-Chorus:
    Dm G7 Dm
But... if you listen closely I swear,
            G7
To God, I swear.
Dm
You can hear the ocean if you
 G7
Hold it up to your ear, here

Chorus:
C F
White noise...
                                   C
-If you listen close between the waves.-
       F
White noise...
                                      C
-You can hear the ocean through your wake.-
       F
White noise...
                                   C
-If you listen close between the waves.-
       F
White noise...
                   F C
-You can hear the ocean through your wake.-

Instrumental: C F C F C F C

Bridge:
F
Check one, two. Check one, two.
C
It's high-fidelity, lossless quality.
F
It's MP, one, two, three, four, five, f-l-a-c.
C
It's polyphonic, the new Philharmonic,
        F
With a Juilliard doctorate, live from the Metropolitan.
C
It's theoretically dense, it's impressive.
F
It's microtonal, and it challenges Western
C
notions of art, it's post-avant-garde.
F
It's going places 'cause it comes from the heart.
    C
And it's personality's a lack of identity,
F
It makes no statement, but does so quite loudly.
C
It's an aesthetic, I mean, an anesthetic.
     F
And it's an experience for your seventh sense, yes.
C
Does it cure cancer? -Yes, it cures cancer!-
F
Wow! It begs the question just to tell you the answer.
C
Do you believe in the power of silence?
          F
Well, if you walk the walk, can you talk more-
-nc-
-Shh!- Quiet.

Chorus:
C F
White noise...
                                   C
-If you listen close between the waves.-
       F
White noise...
                                      C
-You can hear the ocean through your wake.-
       F
White noise...
                                   C
-If you listen close between the waves.-
       F
White noise...
                   F C
-You can hear the ocean through your wake.-

Verse 3:
F C
You fill your head with thoughts you find you can't even feel.
 G
Try to make room in your skull, but it's full of them.
 F C
All of the things that you think and then think about thinking.
             G
I know it's hard.
                         F
But they're not who you are,
                C
They're white noise.
