Verse 1:
Dbm E B Dbm
Watch that old fire as it flickers and dies
     E B Gb
That once blessed the household and lit up our lives
    E Gb Dbm B
It shone for the friends and the clinking of glasses
     Dbm E B Dbm
I'll tend to the flame; you can worship the ashes

Verse 2:
Dbm E B Dbm
Capture the wild things and bring them in line
    E B Gb
And own what was never your right to confine
    E Gb Dbm B
The lives and the loves and the songs are what matters
     Dbm E B Dbm
I'll tend to the flame; you can worship the ashes

Verse 3:
Dbm E B Dbm
Do you feel heavy? Your eyes drop with grief
     E B Gb
Your spirit is wild and your suffering is brief
   E Gb Dbm B
So never you buckle and bend to the masses
     Dbm E B Dbm
I'll tend to the flame; you can worship the ashes

Verse 4:
Dbm E B Dbm
Get round the fire with a glass of strong ale
    E B Gb
And tell us a story from beyond the pale
E Gb Dbm B
Bury some seeds and expect some strong branches
     Dbm E B Dbm
I'll tend to the flame; you can worship the ashes

Verse 5:
Dbm E B Dbm
Now show me a man that can meet all his needs
    E B Gb
For what we need most now is unity's seed:
  E Gb Dbm B
a common old song for all creeds and all classes
     Dbm E B Dbm
I'll tend to the flame; you can worship the ashes

     Dbm Ab
I'll tend to the flame...

Verse 6:
Dbm E B Dbm
What will we do when the world it is ending
     E B Gb
And time it is halted for friend and for foe?
E Gb Dbm B
Try to hold on to the time as it passes
     Dbm E B Dbm
I'll tend to the flame; you can worship the ashes
     Dbm E B Dbm
I'll tend to the flame; you can worship the ashes
     Dbm E B Dbm
I'll tend to the flame; you can worship the ashes
