Verse:
A
Two days past eighteen
He was waitin' for the bus in his army greens
D
Sat down in a booth at a caf? there
A
Gave his order to the girl with a bow in her hair
He's a little shy so she gave him a smile
So he said would you mind sittin' down for a while
	D A
And talkin' to me I'm feelin' a little low
		G D A
She said I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go

Verse - same as first -:
So they went down and they sat on the pier
He said I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care
I've got no one to send a letter to
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?

Chorus:
Gbm D
I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
A
Too young for him they told her
E E7
Waitin' for the love of the travelin' soldier
Gbm
Our love will never end
D
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
A
Never more to be alone
E E7 A
When the letter says a soldier's coming home

Verse - same pattern as before -:
So the letters came
From an army camp
In California then Vietnam
And he told his heart
It might be love
And all of the things he was so scared of
Said when it's gettin kinda rough over here
I think about that day sittin' down at the pier
And close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Now don't worry but I won't be able to write for a while

Chorus:
Gbm D
I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
A
Too young for him they told her
E E7
Waitin' for the love of the travelin' soldier
Gbm
Our love will never end
D
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
A
Never more to be alone
E E7 A
When the letter says a soldier's coming home

Verse - same pattern as before -:
One Friday night at a football game
The Lord's Prayer said and the anthem sang
A man said folks would you bow your heads
For the list of local Vietnam dead
Cryin' all alone under the stands
Was the piccolo player in the marching band
And one name read and no one really cared
But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair

Chorus:
Gbm D
I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
A
Too young for him they told her
E E7
Waitin' for the love of the travelin' soldier
Gbm
Our love will never end
D
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
A
Never more to be alone
E E7 A
When the letter says a soldier's coming home

  1. Im sorry but this person spent THEIR time to do something for YOU. You should be grateful they even wrote the song and if you are so upset then maybe you should just write the song YOURSELF. Be grateful and have some respect

  2. Im sorry but this person took time out of THEIR day to do something for YOU so instead of complaining about the chords maybe YOU should write his song yourself if you’re so mad. Have some respect.

  3. hey this person volunteered their own time to write the chords for someone else, if you are so mad that they only did half the chords then maybe YOU should take YOUR time to write a song for SOMEONE ELSE

  4. Please don’t post the chords for half of the song; it isn’t fair to beginners. They need to see what chord transitions into the next one. When you post a song post the chords in the correct spot for every verse even if they are the same. If other people can do it, so can you.

    • I AGREE! It isn’t just not fair to beginners- it isn’t fair to ANYBODY!

      • UGH!! Write the song YOURSELF if your so mad! This person took time out of THEIR day to do something for YOU so be grateful and have some respect

  5. IF YOU ARE GOING TO POST THE CHORDS FOR A SONG HOW ABOUT YOU DONT BE LAZY AND ACTUALLY POST THE CHORDS THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE ENTIRE SONG?!?!?!?!?!

  6. super pretty and simple to play

  7. allisonzanolli

I love this song and I’m so happy to have the tabs. It’s easy to play and to remember the chord progression.
