Intro: E A

E Gbm
I've been staring at the edge of the water
                 Dbm A
'Long as I can remember, never really knowing why
E Gbm
I wish I could be the perfect daughter
                       Dbm A
But I come back to the water, no matter how hard I try
Every turn I take, every trail I track
Every path I make, every road leads back
To the place I know, where I can not go
Where I long to be

        E B
See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me
           Dbm A
And no one knows, how far it goes
       E B
If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
             Dbm Am
One day I'll know, if I go there's just no telling how far I'll go

Interlude: E B Dbm A

E Gbm Dbm
I know, everybody on this island seems so happy on this island
Everything is by design
E Gbm Dbm
I know, everybody on this island has a role on this island
So maybe I can roll with mine
I can lead with pride, I can make us strong
I'll be satisfied if I play along
But the voice inside sings a different song
What is wrong with me?

        E B
See the light as it shines on the sea? It's blinding
           Dbm A
But no one knows, how deep it goes
       E B
And it seems like it's calling out to me, so come find me
           Dbm A
And let me know, what's beyond that line, will I cross that line?

        F C
See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me
           Dm Bb
And no one knows, how far it goes
       F C
If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
             Dm Bbm
One day I'll know, how far I'll go

  1. What’s the strumming pattern???????

  2. For the key change just put a capo on fret one or one above wherever you’re capo is and do the same chords as before.

  3. Dbm doesn’t sound right at all. any suggestions?

  4. Alto Overlord

For -4 on the Key Change, I played D A Bm G. If you play waving through a window, basically the same thing for key change.

  5. emeadows21

If you have a hard time playing the E chord you can play it with the G chord. It sounds pretty good and I can’t hear a big difference. :)

I’m sorry, but it doesn’t really work well. There’s another easier way to play the E chord which is bar the 4th fret, and hold down the bottom string 7th fret (the second fret marker). If this makes it easier then take it with you! The G chord just isn’t in the key. Hope this helps!!!

  6. Ninninegg

I am very new to ukulele. I found a sheet that has te same cords as -4. I think if you want simple cords up until the key change go with -4.

  7. To pluck the tune play at +1 F major.
I still haven’t figured out how to play the last chorus though!

  8. MeIsAwsome12

    I Love This Song

  9. bearstronaut

    The cold hard facts.
    Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the song.
Auli’i Cravahlo sang it in the movies
Alessia Cara covered it for the end of the movie.

  10. UkuPenelope

+1 is a lot easier until you get to the very last part then the chords get a little trickier

  11. I think it’s easier if the chords were D,A,Bm,G :3

    • Thats what i was using, ive got small hands so i struggke playing certan chords haha. It sounds just the same though

  12. Strumming pattern?!?!?

  13. twenty-one-phans

i’m so happy that my fingers are just long enough to where i can play an e XD

  14. Catalien Music

  15. The -4 version is the easiest

  16. Karma is key
