Ukuleles always made sad songs sound unusually happy..

  • JThepass says:

Try to play it ‘slow’ and don’t strum. Just pick the chords.
Like all 4 of the strings. It sounds calmer and sadder that way.

  • princess_jesikax3 says:

The ukulele surprisingly turned a very sad, emotional song into a kind, warm hearted song. But to make it sad just like the original song, I would preferably play the chords in the same order as it is shown above but I would just pick the strings in the order of 3 2 4 1 4 1 repetitively over and over until the end of the song.

  • SammyF says:

well, the “original song” is actually from Tears for Fears and isn’t as sad sounding as the Gary Jules cover. I found it easier to ‘emulate’ the new wave version on the ukulele.

  • melanie25 says:

Just pick the strings like :
    1+4 2 3 , 1+4 2 3 , 1+4 2 -> next chord
That just sounds perfectly like that

  • mara9237 says:

I’ve been playing it as 2 3 1 4 2 3 1 4 chord change and it sounds really haunting that way. Obviously from all these comments there is more then one way to to it though.

  • ukugirl16 says:

if your having trouble with the chords, do a AM C G D for the verses, and for the chorus, AM D AM . Use Adam Lamberts version of the song

  • ukugirl16 says:

not that this version is bad, but if your stuggling with it, thats a way to do it

  • 5loulou says:

    such a good, haunting song!

Do not ask for strumming patterns. Sharing online how to literally play a song (i.e. strumming patterns, rhythm and tempo) is not allowed by the MPA (Music Publishers Association) because of copyright issues.

Carefully listen to the song and "feel" the rhythm. Once you get the basics of strumming, it'll go real quick. Maybe the strumming guide can help you.
