I would leave here a chord fretting that I feel is more natural for this song than the one shown in the default diagram:
Amaj7 – 4th string index finger. 3rd – middle
D – 4th/3rd/2nd barre with the middle finger
Other like the daigram.
This way you can comfortably pivot your hand around the middle finger that would stay within the 2nd fret for most of the song and it avoids 1st fret barre that is often tough due to the higher tenion.
