Gb
a winter's day
     B               Gb
In a deep and dark December;

Abm Db  B Gb
I  am alone,
Abm             Db      Abm                Db
Gazing from my window to the streets below
     Abm             B                Db
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.

       Gb
I am a rock,
        Db  Gb
I am an is-land.

           Gb
I've built walls,
  B                 Gb
a fortress deep and mighty,
     Abm   Db   B   Gb
That none may penetrate.
  Abm              Db           Abm                Db
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
      Abm               B           Db
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.

       Gb
I am a rock,
        Db  Gb
I am an is-land.

              Gb
Don't talk of love,
     B                 Gb
I've heard the words before;
     Abm   Db         B   Gb
It's sleeping in my memory.
      Abm                Db          Abm                 Db
And I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
     Abm            B                Db
If I never loved I never would have cried.

       Gb
I am a rock,
        Db  Gb
I am an is-land.

          Gb
I have my books

       B            Gb
And my poetry to protect me;
     Abm   Db         B   Gb
I am shielded in my armor,

Abm           Db     Abm             Db
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.

  Abm               B              Db
I touch no one and no one touches me.

       Gb
I am a rock,
        Db  Gb
I am an is-land.

      B     Bbm      Gb
And a rock  feels no pain;
       B      Bbm   Gb
And an island never cries.
