Intro -x2-: Bbm Gb Db

          Bbm Gb
Children, Broadripple is burning
        Db
And the girls are gettin' sick
           Bbm Gb
Of huffin' glue up in the bathroom
           Db
While your boyfriends pick up chicks
                Bbm
And darling I'm lost
            Gb Db
I heard you whispering that night in fountain square
                 Bbm Gb Db
The trash filled streets made me wish we were heading home.

              Bbm Gb
And there was love inside the basement
           Db
Where that woman used to lie
     Bbm Gb
In a sleeping bag we shared
         Db
Upon the floor almost every night
                Bbm
And darling I'm drunk
     Gb Db
everything that I have loved is turned to stone
             Bbm Gb Db
So pack your bag and come back home.

        Bbm
And I'm wasted
        Gb
You can taste it
      Db Db Bbm
Don't look at me that way
               Gb Bbm
'cause I'll be hanging from a rope
       Gb Db Bbm
I will haunt you like a ghost.

Interlude: Bbm Gb Db

      Bbm Gb
If my woman was a fire
           Db
She'd burn out before I wake
         Bbm Gb
And be replaced by pints of whiskey
    Db
Cigarettes, and outer space
            Bbm
If somebody moves
     Gb Db
everything you thought you had will go to xxxx
            Bbm Gb Db
We've got a lot, don't ever forget that.

      Bbm Gb
And I wrote this on an airplane
          Db
Where the people looked like eggs
           Bbm Gb
And when a woman that you loved was gone
        Db
She was bombing east Japan
                  Bbm
And don't xxxxing move
            Gb Db
'cause everything you thought you have will go to xxxx
            Bbm Gb Db
We've got a lot, don't you dare to forget that.

        Bbm
And I'm wasted
        Gb
You can taste it
      Db Db Bbm
Don't look at me that way
               Gb Bbm
'cause I'll be hanging from a rope
       Gb Db Bbm
I will haunt you like a ghost.

      Db Db Bbm
Don't look at me that way

  1. Literal Trash

This song sounds so beautiful on the uke! Thank you xx

  2. does anyone know the strumming pattern?

  3. If this helps anyone, I transpose it to +3 so it’s not so low, and easier to sing for my voice, but still sounds like the song! That would make the chords C F and Am which is even a little easier on the fingers for a beginner player

  4. When you’re playing it on guitar the chords are em-c-g all throughout the song

So, years back when I first wanted to learn this song, I found chords that almost perfectly matched the transposed three half steps up version– the Am F C progression. The only difference was that G was used in the chorus to break it up a little bit, which I find sounds better (particularly/at least if it’s just vocals + uke) and may even more closely resemble the Not Animal! album version(? but maybe not and I’m just saying that to seem more intelligent).

In any case, the chorus looked like this:

    Am
    And I’m wasted
    F
    You can taste it
    C G Am
Don’t look at me that way
    F Am
’cause I’ll be hanging from a rope
    C G Am
I will haunt you like a ghost.

Only thing is, I think the non-transposed progression complements my voice, so I’m not sure how to transpose the G back to the Gbm D A progression, if that makes sense. E doesn’t sound too bad to my ear (but I don’t know how reliable that is and I also need new strings).
Also, they may have just added G throughout the song in places, I don’t really remember.
