Intro: G

Verse 1:
                G Em
I built a friend with three pieces of plastic and a pen,
                                  C
I made him on the table in the den,
                                      G
I gave him my old cellphone for a head,
          D
For a head.
       G
And we spent holidays in my house,
        Em
And we left presents in the stocking,
          C G
And we bought bolts and things and strings and a new watch,
                  D
That's what he got.

Chorus:
C
And we had so much fun together,
G D
We knew we'd be friends forever.
C
And we had so much fun together,
G D
we had so much fun.

Verse 2:
        G
Then I left for college in September
        Em
And we wept cause we can't be together
      C G
So I kept pictures to remember my old friend,
          D
My old friend.
        G
Then I met this girl at graduation
        Em
And forget my oldest creation
       C
And I guess I'll see him next vacation
        G D
Send my best, I send my best

Chorus:
C
And we had so much fun together,
G D
We knew we'd be friends forever.
C
And we had so much fun together,
G D
we had so much fun.

Verse 3:
          G Em
I came home to find him on the table with a note
                                 C
Scribbled out in pencil and he wrote
                                  G
That he just wasn't stable all alone,
       D
All alone.
          G Em
Next to him, an empty glass of water that he spilled
                          C
All over the body that I built,
                                      G
It fizzled and it popped and then it killed,
               D
And then it killed.

Chorus:
C
And we had so much fun together,
G D
We thought we'd be friends forever.
C
And we had so much fun together,
G D
we had so much fun.
           G
I built a friend.

The first ever time I heard this song was on AGT when Merrick Hanna was dancing to the song. It kept on coming back to me and when I found out who wrote the song and I saw this I was super excited. Thank you so much for putting this song on UkuTabs because I LOVE UkuTabs a LOT. You made my day today. :)

Saaaaaaame. That dance paired with this song was perfection and it broke my heart.

Sadie Bell

I’m sorry but I have to disagree. I think it was really good, but his dance style didn’t completely match the song, and I didn’t love it because I heard the song first before I saw him dance, and I had pictured it differently. But you are entitled to your own opinion.

Thank you!!

For those curious on the strum patter it’s more of a plucking. It’s the same as Hey There Delilah. Pluck the C string once then E and A at the same time once and repeat. But for the very last A of the song do a single down strum. Hope this helps!

AHHHH THIS SONG IS MY FAVORITEST SONG IN THE WHOLE WIDE UNIVERSE AND IM SO HAPPY THAT I CAN FINALLY PLAY IT AND AM JUST THE BIGGEST HAPPY THE END

kiannamarie

if E is a bit hard, i used E7 (wasn’t spot on but it was easier to reach)

leo

there are ways to cheat the E chord!😁Google it!😁

AlexArrowWolf

Or you could just y’know play it? Practice it? It’s not the worst chord out there…

Satan

look i don’t know about you but my fingers are physically too short to actually do the E chord so using E7 is my only option

thatasiannerd

dang satan

chloeelaine

I hate to say this… but I have to agree with Satan here as someone who is cursed with short fingers.

SlytherinQueen25
